Holy Thursday 2020

My Lord, I yearn for You
As I gaze through my tablet screen
At the livestreamed close-up image
Of the Host in the golden monstrance.

What are your thoughts, My Lord,
As You look down from the monstrance
At the empty pews in church?
Is it true what the priest just said,

That You stay in the Host out of love
That seeks to dwell with us?
That Your love for us seeks union?
Why then must You stay distant?

Then the Lord said, “Never refuse
To let Me wash your feet.
I’ll make you clean and heal you
But hinder not My grace.

Doubt not that My love
Reaches you now through walls,
Through miles, through sickly air
To give you My embrace.”

And I said, “Lord, hear the prayer
That I cry now unto You:
Domine, non sum dignus.
Sed tantum dic verbo.”
