We feel Jesus’s sense of urgency as the Gospel tells us how He ‘went immediately to the house of Simon and Andrew’ upon hearing that Peter’s mother-in-law had a fever.
It is amazing how Jesus even rushes to heal common ailments like fevers when there’s so many people out there struck with severe issues like leprosy, disabilities, or possessions. Something beautiful happened inside that house soon after. We read that ‘Jesus came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them.’ (Mk 1:31)
We can spend the whole day just meditating on this single verse. Imagine Jesus Christ, all-powerful creator of the world — taking you by the hand and lifting you up. How powerful is that image!
Atop of the fever leaving the lady, she immediately started serving them the moment her body was well again. This here, is true Faith. Faith is only real when coupled with a response to God’s Grace, a physical action of charity, as shown by Peter’s mother-in-law. This is the type of Faith we must strive to emulate.
