An Examination of Conscience: Archbishop Vigneron, Communion, and Canon 916

An Examination of Conscience: Archbishop Vigneron, Communion, and Canon 916

[ 4 ] April 10, 2013 AD |

Earlier this week,  it was reported that Archbishop Allen Vigneron made comments about supporters of “Gay-marriage” and their reception of Communion. The story originally broke in the Detroit Free Press, and was rather sketchy on quotes and sources, but the money-line was in there – supporters of “Gay-marriage” should not receive Communion. The original Free [...]

What Is a Dominican Thomist To Do With Pope Francis?

What Is a Dominican Thomist To Do With Pope Francis?

[ 3 ] March 13, 2013 AD |

This was not the post that I was going to publish today. When I realized a few weeks ago that my “posting day” might fall during the first days of the Conclave I knew what I would write about. I would write about my “reversion” to the Catholic Church 7 years ago. I would explain [...]

A Prayer for America – An Election Video

A Prayer for America – An Election Video

[ 3 ] October 16, 2012 AD |

This fall I have been working at CatholicVote.org. While we do a lot of different things, one of the things we are best known for are the videos we put out. Starting in 2008 we have launched several videos about politics, voting, cultural issues, and the Catholic Church. This year, we wanted to produce a [...]

Hacking the Catholic Vote

Hacking the Catholic Vote

[ 7 ] September 28, 2012 AD |

Before you click away to Pinterest or Facebook because you just can’t handle another anything political, give this post a chance. Give it a chance because it really is our future at stake, and even more grave – the Catholic faith in America as we know it. This election is a big deal. I am not [...]

Now What?

Now What?

[ 2 ] February 13, 2012 AD |

You’ve signed the petitions, read (and possibly written) the posts, and even changed your Facebook picture to show the Obama Administration how upset you are with their attack on your religious liberty. So there, now they know exactly where you stand. You won’t take this nonsense, to you the Constitution means something, and for that matter, [...]

Desire and Fear

Desire and Fear

[ 3 ] December 19, 2011 AD |

Desire to be despised, rebuked, calumniated, forgotten, ridiculed, wronged, and suspected. Fear being esteemed, loved, extolled, honored, praised, preferred to others, consulted, and approved. There are no typos. You should desire some and fear others – this is quite opposite of what the world tells you, and frankly what many Catholic blogs tell you. In fact [...]

Love Multiplies, Not Divides

Love Multiplies, Not Divides

[ 3 ] December 1, 2011 AD |

I will be honest, a week ago I was really scared. It was my wife’s “Due Date” with our second child, and I realized that I was about to double the amount of children I had. Our first, our daughter, was awesome. She was born 6 months after we moved to Alaska, 9 months after [...]

Faith Is a Process And Not An Event

Faith Is a Process And Not An Event

[ 0 ] November 17, 2011 AD |

Recently, I have taken up a new pursuit: fur trapping. Knowing this is an emotionally charged topic, I will not to make it a focal point of my post, but I mention it for analogy reasons. You see, as someone new to art, and trust me it is an art, I am starting with basic [...]

Dealing With Disappointment

Dealing With Disappointment

[ 4 ] November 11, 2011 AD |

Life is hard, and there are going to be days where it seems that your world is caving in around you. For most of us, those days usually involve death, failure, sin, or some other monumental event. Then there are the days where we feel almost as bad due to some big disappointment, but to [...]

The Problem With Pleasure

The Problem With Pleasure

[ 2 ] November 4, 2011 AD |

The problem with pleasure isn’t that it exists. In other words, it isn’t the same thing as the problem of evil. The problem isn’t that pleasure exists, no, it is how we seek it and what we seek it from that is the problem. I was discussing this with a friend the other night and I [...]

“Not by Bread Alone…”

[ 5 ] October 28, 2011 AD |

I want to #occupyyourheart for a few minutes. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) We can’t turn around without hearing about the economic woes of the world. Everywhere we look there is a story about market crashes, foreclosures, bailouts, failures, greed, or a general belief that there is a systematic collapse of financial institutions occurring. People have [...]

We Don’t Belong

[ 5 ] October 21, 2011 AD |

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. This I command you, to love one another. “If the world hates you, know [...]

What About Us?

What About Us?

[ 21 ] October 6, 2011 AD |

If you are reading this, well then you read blogs. Chances are you probably write one, or have, or will. We all love our faith, no doubt about it. We all think we have something important to say about it too, and many of us do. But few of us will ever grow up to [...]

“Quis ut Deus?”

“Quis ut Deus?”

[ 6 ] September 29, 2011 AD |

“Who is like God?” This is the translated meaning of ‘Michael’. The Captain of the Heavenly Hosts, the Angelic Warrior that cast Lucifer from Heaven for eternity, Guardian of Paradise. The question is as haunting as it is triumphant. “Who is like God?” It is mostly rhetorical, but it seems to call for an answer, [...]

Our Faith Must Be Who We Are, Not Simply What We Do

[ 4 ] September 23, 2011 AD |

No one said this would be easy. Living as a Catholic in the world, but not being of the world – yeah, it is hard. And if you don’t think it is hard, either give me your secret or quit lying to yourself. God told us that we would be hated, that some of us [...]

Hi…I am a little nervous writing here which is kind of weird for me, since I don’t really get nervous. But when I was asked to write for this awesome new site, I was completely surprised. First, I am on the older end of the spectrum of “Young” at 32 years old. Second, I am [...]
