The Wager for Greater Glory

All right Frank Weathers, my fellow teufel hunden, I am throwing the gauntlet down.  If you don’t go see Dean Wright’s “For Greater Glory” in a theater, you (in Marine speak) are wrong.  Oh, and for those confused right now, and who don’t know, our dear friend Mr. Weathers refuses to spend a cent on “For Greater Glory” because of the movie’s rating at Metacritic.

While I’ll admit that the movie is not the greatest movie ever made, the story that follows the life of Blessed Jose is more than worth the money.  Mauricio Kuri as Blessed Jose does an outstanding job of developing a flawed young boy into a dramatic martyr.  The dynamic between Blessed Jose and his godfather, and Blessed Jose and his own mother, is profound and unforgettable.  The power and glory of his martyrdom will best be experienced via the media of a movie theater, and not your home screen (no matter how large).

Without going too much more into detail of the movie, all I ask, my fellow leatherneck, is that you go and see this movie at a theater near you (there’s one close, I checked).  Watch it not with gritted teeth and sighs of tedium, but with watch it with a positive attitude.  Pay attention to Mauricio Kuri’s performance, and the story of his character.  Ignore everything else if you so choose, but follow him.

In fact, I am so impassioned about this, if you are not emotionally moved by the end of the credits then I will personally refund your ticket, Mr. Frank Weathers. (This offer only applies to the blogger Frank Weathers at YIM Catholic!  Just so we’re clear.)

So, what say you?

Joseph
